Ecology Colloquium Series - Modeling Black Bear Populations in PA

Ethan Kibe (Penn State)

When: Wednesday, February 8, 2017 - 12:20pm - 1:15 pm
Where: 104 Forest Resources Building
Name: Dr. David Eissenstat

Models are constructed with individual and grouped covariates for tagged bears across PA in an effort to predict the likelihood of harvest.  Models are compared to the Lincoln-Peterson equivalent model that is the current standard for estimating bear populations in PA.  The estimates from the best model are then used in a Horvitz-Thompson-like analysis with respect to all harvest records for a particular year to estimate population.
